Audemars Piguet has always been committed to making excellent calendar watches and has continuously produced perpetual calendar watches, even though for more than a century this complication was almost exclusively used in pocket watches. The brand began selling its first full calendar watch with moon phases in 1924, and according to its archives, the first perpetual calendar watch was produced and delivered in 1955. Of the 208 calendar watches delivered by Audemars Piguet between 1924 and 1969, only 12 were equipped with a perpetual calendar function, all of which were made in 1955 and 1957 for the iconic 5516 reference, the first watch ever to display the leap year cycle.
